searching-5-x-7
Searching- 5" x 7"

I draw a lot of eyes in my art work. I think because I grew up with people zeroing in on my eyes, I paid a lot of attention to everyone else's eyes as well. I became fascinated by how much eyes can attempt to hide and if you looked close enough...you could see something occasionally darker. For me I needed to know the difference between "happy eyes" and "tread carefully eyes". I also needed to make sure I kept a family secret despite how much pain it caused me inside. I needed to know how to appear happy no matter what. Because of this obsession with eyes as it became a resource of knowing how to survive the world around me, I developed what everyone with PTSD deals with, this hypervigilance that is constantly at work. Searching. Always searching.
Searching for danger, searching for exits, searching for safe people, searching for answers, and searching for the things my ADHD loses.
My scratch art is quite often me searching within for anything and everything. As a traumitized neurodivergent it's a full time job maintaining a sense of calm and being as functional as I possibly can be. I want to live my life and not be held captive by the fear others hurt me with. I am determined to rise above it all and show others a way out too.

This piece represents the internal searching that takes place to get me through my day.
